Week Five, Day Three

How To: Make My Collaboration a Reality

Step 1. So I came up with several ideas. One that particularly stands out t
o me is the child's drawing competition. This competition would draw a crowd and therefore would be a great opportunity to spread awareness. Before the drawing section, there would be a slideshow presentation on how to be a responsible pet owner (how to potty train, how often to feed, how to play, etc). The best way to instill good behavior would be at a young age. Good techniques and caring rules would be demonstrated. After the slideshow presentation, a dog or cat would be brought out and the kids could interact. Then the drawing would commence. A local artist would be present and show kids some tips on how to draw quickly and other techniques. I enjoy this idea because it combines awareness, learning and fun.

Step 2. To put this proposal into action, I will need to contact the animal shelter and explain idea. Contact local artist and ask if he/she would volunteer his/her talents.

Step 3.
Once the key people are in place, advertising will be a major part of putting on a successful event. An affordable and relatively easy option is to post flyers all over the island to explain about the event. M
aybe even pass out flyers to kids while I'm working at the ice cream store. :)

Okay, so my collaboration is more about awareness and kid's art...so to provide an example of a different collaboration. Drawings combined with photos might be interesting. Visuals of the collaboration would be a picture of the animal with the background being a family. This post is very dynamic with ideas. So combine the two below pictures; cat in the front with a background drawing. "What would your new pet look like with your family?" Therefore, combining these two elements would place full emphasis on the animal and how the family needs to be there to support the new pet.(Artist: Megan; Source: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230222@N07/2380929432/)

  1. Great idea Jess! It is wonderful to get children involved in stuff like this. It makes them feel like they are making a difference even though they are just kids. This would be a fantastic way to raise awareness. I would think that the ice cream shop would be a prime location.

As for the image, did you use a mask or Gaussian blur in the background. I love high contrast but the strong black and white background is competing for my attention with this cute kitty. Love the pose you were able to capture. Nice cropping!

  2. I think you had the best idea so far. It was very creative and impacting. It really does combine awareness, learning and most definitely fun. The image of the kitten looks very professional and I can't seem to pin point why. Perhaps it the perfect amount of cropping or the almost comical look of the kitten being so fluffy. I enjoy it and I think the drawing from the child looks so adorable. There really is nothing like the innocent mindset of a kid.

  3. @Karen, Thanks. As for the image, I didn't use the blur but I did use macromode when taking the picture.

@Peyton, I totally agree about the innocence of children. It's important to start at the beginning. :)

  4. Jess, I think this is a fantastic idea. I love the part where the children would take a photo of an animal in the shelter and draw it into their family portrait. Maybe shelter donations could be accepted at this event? This is really worth exploring. You could run this idea by the shelter manager. Advertising at the ice cream shop is brilliant!
